Adman, designer, painter: Armando Testa reveals himself, in this exhibition and in the catalogue that accompanies it, as a contemporary artist who proved capable of exploring the variety of artistic languages typical of our age. Testa showed himself to be deeply acquainted with the semiotic and visual processes that shape our system of communications - based on logic and the close interrelation between objects and situations -, which he subverted through double-entendres, giving his images new meanings. This mode of creation has now completely been assimilated by both the world of contemporary art and that of advertising. The works collected in the book and the contributions of the experts of the different sectors in which Testa worked offer the chance to move away from the mere commemoration of the creativity of this great artist - who devised characters and situations that have long entered the collective imagination - in order to enable certain lesser known aspects of his work to emerge: the "constructive" aspects ofhis creations, which can be linked to the contemporary idea of design.
